New Delhi, Dec 23 (.) Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge on Tuesday paid tribute to former Prime Minister Chaudhary Charan Singh on his birth anniversary, hailing him as a champion of farmers’ rights.
“The path to the prosperity of the nation passes through the fields and farmlands of our villages” Chaudhary Charan Singh,” Kharge said in a post on X.
Kharge extended his greetings to all farmer brothers and sisters, and to field laborers on Kisan Diwas, saying “Farmers are India itself, the pride of the nation, the identity of the country.”
However, Kharge also slammed the Modi government for its alleged anti-farmer policies, saying “In the last 11 years, the Modi government has done injustice to crores of farmers due to its stubbornness and anti-farmer policies, and by making false promises, it has only deceived them.”
“The fight for justice for farmers continues, and the Congress Party will keep fighting continuously for their rights and welfare; this is our resolve,” Kharge added. Chaudhary Charan Singh was a strong advocate for farmers’ rights and played a key role in shaping India’s agricultural policies during his tenure as Prime Minister from 1979 to 1980.
