New Delhi, Dec 22 (.) Delhi Police on Monday registered a murder case after the body of a woman was found in the Yamuna Khadar area of northeast Delhi, an official said.
According to the police, they received information in the afternoon that an unconscious woman was found lying near Yamuna Khadar.
“A team was immediately dispatched to the location, where they found the body of an unidentified woman, approximately 20 years old,” a senior officer said.
The crime team, along with the forensic experts, was called to the site to examine the scene and collect important evidence.
“Preliminary observations indicate foul play, after which a case of murder was registered at Shastri Park police station, and the investigation is ongoing,” said the police officer.
The body was subsequently taken to Guru Teg Bahadur (GTB) Hospital for a post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause and time of death. Police stated that the post-mortem report is expected to offer crucial leads in the investigation.
Meanwhile, a police source stated that investigators are also exploring the possibility of sexual assault and the subsequent abandonment of the victim near Yamuna Khadar.
Officials are working to determine the identity of the deceased.
Police teams have been assigned to review missing persons records, coordinate with nearby police stations, and contact hospitals and shelters in the area.
Additionally, local inquiries are underway to identify anyone who may have seen the woman before her death.
“We are reviewing CCTV footage from nearby areas and questioning locals who frequent the vicinity. Teams have also been deployed to collect both technical and human intelligence to identify and apprehend those responsible for the crime,” said the officer.
Further investigation is in progress, police added.
