Washington, Dec 23 (.) The first teaser for Christopher Nolan’s upcoming epic “The Odyssey” has been released, offering an early look at the director’s ambitious adaptation of Homer’s classic tale.
According to Variety, the film centers on the Greek hero Odysseus, played by Matt Damon, and his long, perilous journey home following the Trojan War. Universal Pictures had previously shared a first-look image of Damon in costume earlier this year.
The teaser depicts Odysseus and his army facing disaster at sea, including scenes of shipwrecks and the warriors hidden inside the legendary Trojan horse, a moment that had earlier been previewed in exclusive IMAX footage.
As the journey unfolds, Odysseus is shown crossing vast landscapes, sailing dangerous waters, and venturing into shadowy caves where a massive, threatening creature lurks.
The cast includes Anne Hathaway as Penelope, Tom Holland as Odysseus’ son Telemachus, and Zendaya, Lupita Nyong’o, Charlize Theron, Mia Goth, Benny Safdie, Jon Bernthal, and John Leguizamo, among others.
Nolan both wrote and directed the film and is producing it alongside his wife, Emma Thomas.
Universal has said the movie is being filmed around the world using new IMAX film technology. At CinemaCon, Universal executive Jim Orr described the project as a “once-in-a-generation cinematic masterpiece” that would make Homer proud.
Leguizamo recently praised Nolan’s hands-on approach, comparing his work style to that of an independent filmmaker rather than a studio-driven director.
“The Odyssey” follows Nolan’s Oscar-winning success “Oppenheimer,” which earned seven Academy Awards in 2024.
