Sanaa, Dec 30 (.) The head of the Presidential Leadership Council (PLC), backed by the Saudi-led coalition, has ordered all UAE forces to leave Yemeni territory within 24 hours.
In a televised address, Rashad al-Alimi framed the move as a matter of sovereignty and renewed his praise for Saudi Arabia and the coalition for their support.
He also canceled the joint defense agreement with the UAE, announced a 72-hour air, land, and sea blockade, and declared a state of emergency for 90 days.
According to the relevant decree issued on Tuesday, the PLC head Rashad al-Alimi has imposed a state of emergency across the entire territory controlled by the council for 90 days, ending the defense agreement with the UAE amid military aid to Yemen’s separatist group, the Southern Transitional Council, which seized the eastern provinces.
The decree stated that the state of emergency is effective immediately, lasting for 90 days with the possibility of extension. It also ordered “all airports, ports, and land border crossings to be closed for 72 hours.”
“The leader ordered the termination of the mutual defense agreement with the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and the withdrawal of all UAE troops from territory controlled by the council within 24 hours,” the document read.
The decree further directed troops under Al-Alimi’s control to oust forces of the Southern Transitional Council from the eastern provinces.
The Saudi-led coalition in Yemen has carried out a “limited military operation” targeting what it described as foreign military support at Mukalla port, days after warning the separatist Southern Transitional Council (STC) group against taking military action in Hadramout province.
Coalition air forces carried out the military operation early on Tuesday, targeting unloaded weapons and vehicles, the official Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported.
