Washington, Dec 31 (.) The season 3 trailer of the critically acclaimed comedy series ‘Shrinking’ has been released, offering a first look at Michael J. Fox’s return to acting after he stepped away from his career in 2020 due to speech difficulties linked to Parkinson’s disease.
The Apple TV series stars Jason Segel, Jessica Williams, Luke Tennie, Harrison Ford, and others in lead roles. In a standout moment from the trailer, Fox appears in the waiting room of a medical facility seated beside Dr. Paul Rhoades (Harrison Ford).
When Fox’s character, whose name has not yet been revealed, asks, “What are you in for?”, Paul replies, “Parkinson’s. You?” Fox responds, “Just a haircut,” prompting laughter from both.
According to Variety, Paul Rhoades has been living with Parkinson’s since Season 1 of ‘Shrinking’. Initially, the character attempts to hide both the diagnosis and the severity of his symptoms, but over time is forced to confront the disease more openly.
The trailer also teases several emotional and comedic storylines. After Sofi stops by Jimmy’s house and later leaves, Liz (Christa Miller), Derek (Ted McGinley) and Sean (Luke Tennie) tease Jimmy for not asking her out.
Elsewhere, Jimmy struggles emotionally as his daughter Alice (Lukita Maxwell) prepares to leave for college. Apple TV shared the trailer on its official Instagram handle.
Fox’s casting, announced in May, marks a reunion with series co-creator Bill Lawrence. Fox previously starred in Lawrence’s ABC sitcom Spin City for four seasons before exiting the show in 2000 due to Parkinson’s-related challenges, Variety reported. He also had a memorable guest arc on Lawrence’s medical comedy Scrubs.
The trailer further highlights a reunion between co-creator and star Jason Segel and his How I Met Your Mother co-star Cobie Smulders, who plays Jimmy’s new love interest, Sofi. ‘Shrinking Season 3’ is set to premiere on January 28, 2026, on Apple TV .
