New Delhi, Dec 31 (.) Another theatre actor has entered Bollywood. Actor Janmmejaya Singh, who has appeared in one film so far, will star in his upcoming project titled Ramyaa, featuring Sayaji Shinde, who previously played the role of a powerful, corrupt politician-turned-criminal in Manoj Bajpayee’s ‘Shool’.
Born and raised in Delhi with family roots in Banaras, Singh brings years of preparation in theatre, fitness, and acting training to the big screen, marking him as a promising new face in mainstream cinema.
Singh’s debut project with produced by SRG film Ltd owned by Reema Lahiri daughter of Bappi Lahiri, has been widely noted for his controlled screen presence and readiness for action and thriller roles.
Janmmejaya, emphasizes that acting was never a sudden career choice but a lifelong calling. “I was always into acting,” he says, recalling his school and college days of performing skits, mimicking actors, and participating in theatre.
Janmmejaya made his Bollywood debut with ‘Hum Tumhe Chahte Hain’, produced by Govind bansal and Reema bansal and directed by Rajan lyallpuri, a romantic comedy that helped him enter the industry. However, he soon realized that his strengths lie in action-oriented roles, which allow him to explore a wide range of characters, from police officers to complex anti-heroes.
His latest project, ‘Ramyaa’, is a deeply personal and transformative film for Janmmejaya. Inspired by iconic gangster dramas like ‘Satya and Vaastav’, he plays a middle-class software engineer forced into crime after tragic circumstances.
“It’s the transition, from innocence to brutality, that fascinated me,” he explains, describing the film as a character-driven journey rather than a typical multi-starrer action thriller.
That clarity led him to Ramyaa, a film he describes as deeply personal and transformative. Janmmejaya says he was instantly drawn to the character’s grey shades and emotional depth. Inspired by iconic gangster dramas like Satya and Vaastav, he found Ramyaa compelling because of its strong character arc.
According to the actor, ‘Ramyaa’ stands apart from typical action thrillers because it is a solo journey rather than a multi-starrer spectacle. The narrative focuses entirely on the evolution of one man, his struggles, emotional conflicts, and the reasons behind his violent choices.
Reflecting on his early challenges as a newcomer, Janmmejaya admits that his first film experience was not easy, largely because he was not taken seriously initially.
“Everything felt natural, and the working atmosphere was very supportive,” he said, adding that both films helped him grow more confident as an actor.
He believes audiences will notice his honesty on screen, his loyalty to the craft, the boldness in his body language, and the sincerity with which he approaches each role.
Director Santosh, who helmed ‘Ramyaa’, praised Janmmejaya’s instinctive acting and dedication. “I felt he had something special,” he said. The film is planned as a multi-part story, with the first part focusing on character development and the second continuing the narrative.
Singh said, “We all have a Ramyaa within us. It’s that fire inside, a force that emerges when circumstances push us to the edge.”
