New Delhi, Jan 2 (.) The Director General, Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) Praveer Ranjan felicitated the force’s ‘Women Band’ on Friday at the headquarters in the national capital to honor their exceptional achievement at the 26th All India Police Band Competition.
The competition was held at Secunderabad from December 16 to 20 last year, where the team bagged the Gold medal in the Overall Best Women Contingent Award.
Speaking on the occasion, DG CISF said, “Today, we have gathered here to celebrate women’s strength. CISF is steadily moving towards a gender-neutral force.”
He added that previously certain roles were dominated by male personnel, however, now women are delivering on critical duties with confidence.
It is noteworthy that only a few forces in the country have an all-women brass band.
At the national event, the CISF women band comprised a master, and 33 main band personnel, and two reserve members.
Interestingly, the CISF women band master also bagged the Best Band Conductor (Band Master) Award , won by Lydia Chingbiaksiam.
The award-winning contingent was led by Bhawna Yadav, Assistant Commandant as the team manager.
Notably, the CISF Women Band was conceptualised in September 2023, for which the women constables were recruited through the General Duty entry, where most of the members hardly had any musical background.
Musical training and disciplined rehearsal within limited timeframe, eventually enabled the contingent to become a professional brass band.
