New Delhi, Jan 3 (.): The Communist Party of India (Marxist) on Saturday strongly condemned what it described as a “blatant act of US aggression” against Venezuela, accusing Washington of bombing multiple sites in the Latin American country as part of a larger strategy aimed at enforcing regime change.
In a press statement issued by its Polit Bureau, the CPI(M) said the recent military action exposed the “real face” of the US National Security Strategy 2025, announced in early December last year.
“For the last few weeks the U.S. has mobilised its military and naval forces around Venezuela in order to enforce regime change,” the statement said.
The Left party alleged that the concentration of American forces in and around the Western Hemisphere, coupled with what it called an open declaration of intent to dominate the region, amounted to a revival of interventionist doctrines. It described the move as “the Trump corollary to the Monroe Doctrine,” referring to the long-standing U.S. policy of asserting influence over the Americas.
“The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) strongly condemns the blatant act of U.S. aggression on Venezuela by bombing various sites in the country,” the statement said, reiterating its opposition to foreign military intervention in sovereign nations.
Calling for an immediate halt to hostilities, the CPI(M) demanded that the United States withdraw all its troops from the Caribbean Sea. It also urged that Latin America be declared a “zone of peace” and asserted that the U.S. “should not be allowed to interfere in the internal affairs of sovereign countries.”
The party further appealed to the international community to take a firm stand, urging the United Nations Security Council to pass a resolution condemning the U.S. action. “International pressure must be mounted on the U.S. to immediately stop its aggression on Venezuela,” the statement said.
The CPI(M)’s remarks come amid heightened global tensions following reports of increased U.S. military activity near Venezuela, drawing sharp reactions from left and anti-imperialist groups worldwide. . SKA KK
