Dhaka, Jan 2 (.) The Bangladesh Inqilab Moncha staging massive demonstrations demanding justice for its slain spokesperson Sharif Osman bin Hadi has vowed to topple the government within 30 days if it fails to bring the killers to trial.
The Moncha took out a big procession from the central mosque premises of Dhaka University after Jumma prayers. The Islamist, anti-India group chanted slogans “We want justice,” and “Bharot na Bangladesh, Bangladesh, Bangladesh,” before delivering the ultimatum, reports The Daily Star.
Addressing the rally, Inqilab Moncha’s member-secretary Abdullah Al Jaber talked of a coup if no satisfactory results were delivered within the timeline. “There are 22 days left, and we are moving forward according to this timeline,” he warned.
“If the government fails to complete the trial of Hadi’s murder within this period, we will launch a movement to topple the government,” Jaber said.
He mocked the government for its incompetence, saying if it can’t identify, apprehend convicts and file a chargesheet, it has no “moral authority” to rule. “If the State cannot maintain law and order and its intelligence agencies are unable to act, we do not want to see such a helpless authority ruling the country,” he said.
Jaber also announced that once the trial formally begins, Inqilab Moncho will launch a public campaign ahead of the elections to inform voters whom they should and should not support.
Jaber further said that the platform would be reaching out to “pro Bangladesh” organisations in “solidarity” with the slain activist, whom he described as the country’s “frontline leader of the anti-Indian hegemony movement, a July uprising fighter, and a rapidly rising political figure.”
