New Delhi, Jan 5 (.) India on Monday asked its nationals to avoid non-essential travel to Iran until further notice in view of the developments there, as protests continued for the ninth day against the Iranian establishment, with demonstrations spreading to more cities.
In an advisory, the Ministry of External Affairs asked Indian citizens and PIOs currently in Iran to exercise due caution, avoid areas of protests or demonstrations, and closely monitor news as well as the website and social media handles of the Embassy of India in Tehran.
It said that Indian nationals living in Iran on resident-visas are advised to register with the Indian Embassy, if not already done so.
Meanwhile, protests continued on Monday for a ninth day, with demonstrators chanting slogans against Iran’s supreme leader in parts of Tehran, while rallies were also reported in cities including Yasuj and Sari, and shops were reported closed in the southern port city of Bandar Ganaveh.
US President Donald Trump said on Sunday that the United States was watching events in Iran very closely and warned that Washington would respond forcefully if Iranian authorities began killing protesters.
At least 19 protesters and one member of security forces have been killed during eight days of demonstrations in Iran that have spread to 222 locations nationwide, with rallies reported in 78 cities across 26 provinces, Iran news sites reported.
