New Delhi, Jan 7 (.) Delhi saw a slight improvement in the air quality index (AQI) on Wednesday morning, with the city recording a drop to 299, though the air quality remained in the ‘poor’ category.
This marked a marginal improvement from the 310 AQI recorded on Tuesday evening.
According to the data from the Central Pollution Control Board’s (CPCB) Sameer mobile application, taken at 9.05 am on Wednesday, locations like Anand Vihar locations like Nehru Nagar (360), Anand Vihar (349), Pusa (345), Chandni Chowk (342), Jahangirpuri (342), Okhla Phase-2 (342), and Sirifort (342) recorded AQI in “very poor” category.
Meanwhile, pollution monitoring stations at Narela (295), Delhi Technical University (299), ITO (291), Alipur (283), Najafgarh (281), and North Campus DU (280) recorded air quality in the ‘poor’ category.”
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast maximum temperatures in the national capital to hover between 14 and 16 degrees Celsius, while minimums are expected to dip to 5–7 degrees Celsius. The department has also warned of moderate fog at many places, with dense fog likely at a few locations during the morning hours.
Meanwhile, airlines issued multiple travel advisories for the fliers on Wednesday. In an advisory late on Tuesday night, the Air India stated that due to heavy fog and reduced visibility forecast for Delhi and parts of Northern India tomorrow morning, the conditions may have a cascading impact on flight schedules across their network.
“We are closely monitoring the situation and have taken some proactive measures to minimise disruptions Should any unexpected delays, diversions or cancellations occur, our ground staff will be at your service to extend support to our guests,” the airline’s post on X read. It also recommended the passengers to check the updated flight status before leaving for the airport.
IndiGo also issued advisories for its passengers. “Visibility remains low, and several flights are now operating with revised timings. Some flights may experience delays, and cancellations remain a possibility as the weather shows no signs of improvement,” the post on X read. The advisories were issued for flights headed for Udaipur, Jaipur, Indore, Guwahati and Agartala.
In view of the prevailing cold wave, authorities in Uttar Pradesh’s Gautam Buddh Nagar district have ordered the closure of all schools up to Class 8 until January 10 due to dense fog and severe cold conditions. The directive applies to all recognised schools across boards and has been issued to ensure the safety of students amid the harsh weather.
