Vadodara, Jan 11 (.) India’s batting maestro Virat Kohli continues to rewrite the record books in One-Day Internationals (ODIs), having secured 45 Player of the Match awards, the third-highest in ODI history behind Sachin Tendulkar (62) and Sanath Jayasuriya (48).
Kohli has been instrumental in India’s remarkable success in high-pressure chases. In 12 innings while chasing targets of 300 or more, he has amassed 1,091 runs at an astounding average of 121.22 and a strike rate of 125.25, including seven centuries and two fifties.
He also holds the record for the most instances of five or more consecutive 50 scores in ODIs, achieving the feat five times.
India remains the most successful team when chasing 300 targets in ODIs, with 20 wins, ahead of England (15), Australia (14), Pakistan (12), and New Zealand/Sri Lanka (11).
New Zealand, in particular, lost an ODI after nine consecutive victories post the 2025 Champions Trophy. India has now secured its eighth successive win over New Zealand in ODIs since 2023, including eight straight victories at home venues against them since 2017.
Sunday’s victory saw India chase down one of the highest targets against New Zealand, second only to their 316-run chase in Bengaluru in 2010.
