Jerusalem, Jan. 11 (.) Israel on Sunday urged the European union to designate Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as a terrorist organization, Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar said.
Sa’ar said he raised the issue in a meeting in Jerusalem with German Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt, telling him that “now is the time to designate Iran’s Revolutionary Guards as a terrorist organization within the European Union.”

“This has long been Germany’s position, and today the importance of this matter is clear to all,” Sa’ar said, without revealing Dobrindt’s response.

Dobrindt is due to meet later on Sunday with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to discuss cooperation on security and cyber issues and efforts to combat antisemitism, ahead of the signing of a joint declaration, Sa’ar added.

The call comes amid heightened regional tensions. Qatar-based Al Araby TV reported that Israeli officials believe the United States could soon strike Iran, which has been facing nationwide protests. The report cited Israeli security officials as saying the Israeli military had raised its alert level and reinforced air defences in anticipation of a possible Iranian response.
