Noida, Jan 12(.): National Rifle Association of India(NRAI) President Kalikesh Narayan Singh Deo on Monday said that it is a challenge for sports governing bodies the world over to adopt the latest technology and make their respective disciplines viewer friendly.
Deo stressed that the upcoming International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) and NRAI backed, Shooting League of India(SLI) will make the sport television friendly and help in providing the marksmen financial security.
While addressing the press at the launch function of the UP Prometheans franchise at the Prometheus School Shooting Range in Noida, he said “It is a challenge for ISSF and IOA to try and make every sport quicker, more visually appealing, viewer friendly, more viable that is the future where the shooting sports is going to go towards. The way it(SLI) is configured is that we have the best in the world to come and compete here, in an exciting new TV friendly franchise based model format with private individuals who are willing to back individual athletes, giving them a platform to financially help our shooters to develop a future. From ISSF’s perspective the league is a vital step to try and imbibe technology.”
Deo assured that the NRAI wants to ensure that the SLI will have all the shooting disciplines in it “the window we got from the ISSF is 10-12 days, we want to keep all the six disciplines of the sport in the league itself, so that all Olympic disciplines are involved, we are looking at a final format and a mixed team’s format,”
He also spoke about some of the major shooting competitions that will be hosted in India in the near future
“we have the Asian Shooting competition in February, World cup quota competition in 2027 and a junior world championship, we are bidding for Asian quota competitions as well.”
He assured that the schedule and venue of the league will be announced soon.
