New Delhi, Jan 14 (.) BJP’s national spokesperson Shehzad Poonawala on Wednesday accused the Left government in Kerala of having an “anti-Hindu character” after revenue authorities issued a memo halting the construction of a temporary bridge for the upcoming Maha Magha festival in Thirunavaya.
He said the move to stop the bridge work essential for the festival — called the Kumbh Mela of the south being restarted after years — was a deliberate attempt to sabotage the event. Poonawala alleged that such concerns are only raised for Hindu festivals due to vote bank politics, citing past controversies such as the Sabarimala gold and ghee “loot”.
The memo was issued for the bridge on the Bharathapuzha river, meant for the festival scheduled from January 18 to February 3 on the sandbed near the Nava Mukunda Temple. Poonawala claimed that both the ruling LDF and opposition UDF exhibit “anti-Hindu sentiment” and mock Hindu beliefs while being silent on issues concerning other faiths.
