Dhaka, Jan 14 (.) Bangladesh Foreign Affairs Advisor Md Touhid Hossain said Wednesday that the country is yet to make any decision regarding sending its forces to Gaza under the proposed multi-national International Stabilisation Force (ISF) for post-war security, emphasising that Dhaka has clearly laid out three definitive conditions.
“No decision has been made. It is still at the discussion level. It has not been determined yet who will be part of this initiative. Most importantly, three conditions have been mentioned clearly,” he told reporters responding to a question at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Under no circumstances would Bangladesh join without the creation of an environment consistent with the three key preconditions, he added.
Asked why the issue was being discussed as the interim government approaches the end of its tenure, Hossain said that while elections are scheduled for February 12, the government remains responsible for safeguarding Bangladesh’s long-term interests.
“The country’s engagement does not change overnight,” he said, adding that the authorities were hopeful the political transition would proceed smoothly.
Hossain also noted that the proposed force is a matter of global concern and does not depend on Bangladesh alone. The interim government, he added, was aware that several Muslim-majority countries have expressed interest in contributing to the mission.
Earlier, Chief Advisor’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam had remarked that while Dhaka recognises the importance of the global task force, and is carefully weighing the matter, he noted that Bangladesh’s participation in the ISF was based around the fulfilment of these three conditions.
Those conditions include the force operating under a clear United Nations Security Council mandate, being temporary in nature, and being deployed only after a permanent ceasefire and the complete withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza.
Responsibility for governance, Alam said, must ultimately be transferred to the Palestinians themselves.
Reaffirming Dhaka’s longstanding position on the matter, Alam reiterated that Bangladesh remains committed to Palestinian self-determination and the creation of a sovereign Palestinian state based on the 1967 borders, with Al Quds Al Sharif as its capital.
“As the third-largest Muslim nation in the world, Bangladesh has consistently condemned Israeli actions in Gaza and called for an immediate end to the violence and a full withdrawal of forces,” he said.
Bangladesh also pointed to Resolution 2803, adopted by the Security Council on November 17, 2025, which provides for the establishment of a global security task force for post-war Gaza.
Alam said all Muslim countries currently on the council voted in favour of the resolution, with several Arab and Muslim states jointly recommending its adoption.
