New Delhi, Jan 15 (.) The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has accused Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Mayor Raja Iqbal Singh of using derogatory language against women councillors in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) house. The party presented a video as evidence during a press conference on Thursday.
AAP Delhi convenor Saurabh Bharadwaj claimed the video shows the mayor referring to women councillors as “sheep and goats” during a house proceeding. He stated that despite the video evidence, the BJP has denied the incident.
Bharadwaj contrasted this with BJP’s recent allegations against an AAP leader, noting that while AAP has provided video proof, the BJP has not presented evidence to support its own claims. He also questioned Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, asking if she considers such language disrespectful to women.
Leader of Opposition in MCD, Ankush Narang, called the alleged remarks reflective of what he termed a BJP mindset, disrespectful towards women. He demanded the immediate dismissal of the mayor, stating that anyone who views women in such terms is unfit for the position.
AAP MCD co-incharge Praveen Kumar recalled that when women councillors previously protested with actual sheep and goats outside the mayor’s office, the mayor had denied making the statement. Kumar said that with evidence now available, the BJP must decide whether to take action.
The BJP has previously denied that Mayor Raja Iqbal Singh made any such remarks, calling AAP’s accusations false. As of now, the BJP has not issued a formal response to the newly presented video.
