Los Angeles, Jan 15 (.) Oscar-winning technologist Mark Sagar and Graphic India co-founder Sharad Devarajan have launched ‘FaiBLE’ Media Inc., a Silicon Valley-based startup dedicated to merging artificial intelligence with storytelling to create groundbreaking narrative technologies, confirms Variety.
The company will be officially unveiled on January 16 at the AETHER Summit in Singapore. ‘FaiBLE’ brings together Devarajan, an award-winning creator and producer serving as CEO, with Sagar, a two-time Academy Award winner for scientific and technical achievements, as Chief AI Officer.
Sagar is renowned for pioneering facial animation systems for films including King Kong and Avatar.
The company’s mission is to understand the fundamental structures that drive narrative resonance and to develop tools and experiences based on these insights.
‘FaiBLE’ describes its long-term research initiative as the “AlphaFold of Storytelling,” likening its goal to AlphaFold’s revolution in decoding protein-folding patterns by uncovering hidden structures, according to Variety.
“Throughout history, humanity has stumbled upon foundational creative discoveries only rarely,” said Devarajan.
“From musical scales to the Hero’s Journey, every great creator seeks to understand the science of their craft. AI now gives us the ability to find them intentionally rather than by accident. FaiBLE is dedicated to uncovering the next wave of transcendent tools to spark a new creative renaissance,” he added.
Devarajan, who also serves as an adjunct professor at Columbia Business School teaching AI and disruptive technologies, founded Graphic India and created The Legend of Hanuman, one of India’s most successful animated series.
Sagar previously pioneered AI-driven virtual beings, including the Baby X project, exploring biologically-inspired neural systems for autonomous animated agents.
“The intersection of AI and storytelling represents one of the most exciting frontiers in technology and art,” Sagar said.
“We’ll explore how stories create meaning, evoke emotion, and endure over time. These are both scientific and artistic questions, and AI gives us unprecedented tools to investigate them.”
A core focus of ‘FaiBLE’ is Quantum Stories, a technology platform that enables dynamic, non-linear story worlds. It allows audiences to explore unique narrative paths through characters, timelines, and perspectives, while AI ensures consistency and canonical integrity across experiences.
“Quantum Stories represent a fundamental shift in how narrative canon is formed,” Sagar explained.
“Traditional media presents static canon authored top-down. In Quantum Stories, canon is alive, continuously expanding while remaining internally consistent. No human writers’ room or branching system could previously sustain this scale. AI allows a creator’s vision to be amplified exponentially,” as quoted by Variety.
‘FaiBLE’ sees India, Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and Latin America as ideal hubs for these innovations, citing rich narrative traditions, large audiences, and openness to new storytelling formats.
“The next generation of iconic story experiences will emerge from creators willing to experiment and take risks,” said Devarajan. “That spirit of creative risk-taking drives everything we are building at ‘FaiBLE’.”
Incubated at Graphic India, ‘FaiBLE’ is assembling a multidisciplinary team of storytellers, animators, technologists, and AI researchers, with global creative and production networks, as per Variety.
The AETHER Summit, held January 15–16 at Marina Bay Sands in Singapore, is an invitation-only forum bringing together leaders in AI, immersive technologies, connectivity, creativity, and global capital.
