New Delhi, Jan 17 (.) Blanket like fog engulfs national capital on Saturday affecting visibility severely.
Palam improved to 500m visibility in Shallow fog at 0900 hrs. Safdarjung visibility further drops to 0200m in moderate fog at 0910 with calm winds. Flights have been cancelled due to low visibility.
Intense cold was also experienced. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for cold wave and dense fog. On Saturday morning minimum temperature was recorded at 7 degree Celsius, slightly improving from Friday.
The cold wave continued for the sixth consecutive day on January 16, with a significant drop in temperature across the city, bringing the minimum temperature down to 4.3 degrees Celsius. However, amidst dense fog, the AQI stays in very poor category with Delhi’s average AQI reaching to 374.
On January 16, the presence of PM 10 had a prominent presence.
According to Delhi Pollution Control Board (Dpcc) Anand Vihar stood at AQI 450 at 8am followed by Chandni Chowk- Delhi IITM which reads 435 AQI.
The maximum and minimum temperatures in Delhi are likely to be in the ranges of 21 to 23 degree Celsius and 6 to 8 degree Celsius. CAQM invokes GRAP- III measures after AQI increased.
As per CPCB standards, an AQI between 0 and 50 is considered ‘good’, 51-100 ‘satisfactory’, 101-200 ‘moderate’, 201-300 ‘poor’, 301-400 ‘very poor’, and 401-500 ‘severe’.
