New Delhi, Jan 21 (.) Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla on Wednesday hit out at the West Bengal Trinamool Congress (TMC) government, alleging “lawlessness has become rampant in the state”.
He claimed that the Supreme Court has also taken note of the prevailing situation in one of its verdicts, observing that the state government had interfered in an ongoing investigation and allegedly removed evidence.
Poonawalla said that a public representative of the TMC, who has sworn an oath on the Constitution, is now instigating what he described as “reprehensible violence” against a constitutional authority. He said such conduct has become a pattern for the party.
He was referring to the alleged statements made by TMC leaders against the Election Commission, including West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee, Abhishek Banerjee, Firhad Hakim and others.
He said that several other leaders of the party have been allegedly involved in such aggressive behavior opposing the Election Commission’s process of correcting the electoral rolls.
He claimed that some of the leaders of the TMC also threatened a BLO belonging to the Tribal community who was working to correct the electoral rolls during which the name of an alleged Bangladeshi national was removed from the rolls.
Poonawalla alleged that the TMC’s approach is to oppose the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in order to protect infiltrators.
Poonawalla alleged that constitutional institutions are being systematically targeted by the TMC, whether by obstructing searches conducted by the Enforcement Directorate or by obstructing its searches, or by opposing and acting against the SIR being done by the Election Commission.
