New Delhi, Jan 21 (.) Delhi Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena on Wednesday inaugurated state-of-the-art column fountains at prominent road junctions at sub-city Dwarka. The fountains have been installed at Sector 6/7 and Sector 5/6 crossings, the two busy junctions that witness heavy traffic.
The project is executed by the Delhi Development Authority. DDA officials stated that the installations are expected to offer a refreshing break for thousands of motorists and pedestrians passing through the area each day.
The LG said Dwarka has witnessed significant development in recent years and the momentum would continue. He reiterated the administration’s commitment to holistic development of the national Capital, with planning aligned to the needs of residents.
The newly inaugurated column fountains blend contemporary design with environmental sensitivity. Each fountain rises to 2.8 metres and is set within a 4.5-metre-diameter sandstone tub crafted from Teak and Rainbow sandstone.
During the day, the sleek column structures act as striking visual features, while at night, dynamic LED lighting transforms them into vibrant focal points along the streetscape.
The installations are complemented by carefully developed floral landscaping, which also helps in cooling the surrounding micro-environment.
DDA officials said that several new projects are also in the pipeline, including the upcoming Bharat Vandana Park, envisioned as a major cultural and recreational destination for the Dwarka city.
At another event, the LG inaugurated ‘Aarambh’ Library in Vikaspuri developed by the DDA, the fifth in the series under the ‘Aarambh’ initiative.
Speaking on the occasion, the LG said Delhi is an education hub . “Aarambh has been created with the purpose to provide state-of-the-art infrastructure to students at affordable prices,” he added.
“It is a noble initiative and I congratulate DDA for this. It is DDA’s service to the students with limited resources and we will continue to take measures for the overall development of the youth,” he added.
Located at M-Block Vikaspuri, the library will operate round-the-clock in three shifts of eight hours each and has the capacity to accommodate over 180 students per day. Access will be available at a nominal fee of Rs. 1,000 per month per shift.
The library is equipped with modular study tables with integrated power points, high-speed internet connectivity, secure lockers, CCTV surveillance, air-conditioned and well-lit interiors, and separate washroom facilities for male and female students.
An accessible toilet has also been provided. To support extended study hours, ‘Café Vardaan’ has been introduced within the premises to provide students with light refreshments.
The 24×7 Aarambh Library is designed to cater to students, researchers, and lifelong learners, offering a well-equipped and student-friendly environment.
