Los Angeles, Jan 22 (.) Mila Kunis is set to assume a commanding dual role in “Nightwatching”, headlining and producing the upcoming psychological thriller adapted from Tracy Sierra’s acclaimed debut novel.
The film will be helmed by Adam Schindler and Brian Netto, the duo behind Netflix’s hit thriller “Don’t Move”.
The screenplay was originally penned by Laura Moss and Brendan J. O’Brien, with later revisions by TJ Cimfel and David White.
The film, which will be distributed internationally by Amazon MGM Studios, will be produced by Ridley Scott, Michael Pruss and Sam Roston for Scott Free Productions; Erik Feig, Jessica Switch and Emily Wissink for Picturestart; and Kunis and Lisa Sterbakov for Kunis’ newly branded production company Brick for Sheep. Roston and Avital Siegel will oversee production for Scott Free.
Production will begin at the end of January as part of the California tax incentive program.
Adopted from Sierra’s novel, which was selected from the Spring 2024 Jimmy Fallon Book Club, “Nightwatching” follows a mother whose world is upended when she awakens during a severe winter storm to find an intruder inside her home. In a single instant, what should have been an ordinary night unravels into a fight for survival. As she struggles to protect her children, she’s drawn into a harrowing game of doubt and danger, one that leaves her questioning not only who has entered her home but what they truly want. Nightwatching is a tense and atmospheric thriller that explores the razor-thin line between safety and terror, and how far a parent will go when darkness closes in.
Kunis was most recently seen as part of the star-studded ensemble of the Knives Out pic Wake Up Dead Man. On the producing side, she and her Brick partners Lisa Sterbakov and Cameron Curtis most recently produced Luckiest Girl Alive for Netflix and are pioneers in Web3, producing animated series Stoner Cats, The Gimmicks and Armored Kingdom.
Schindler and Netto, who work collectively as Type AB, are also attached to direct “Every House Is Haunted”, based on Ian Rogers’ novel, with Sam Raimi and Roy Lee producing, reports DEADLINE.
