New Delhi, Jan 22 (.) Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva is to make a state visit to India from February 19-21, during which the two sides will hold the Brazil-India Business Forum, seeking to bolster trade ties.
Brazilian President, Lula da Silva, who spoke on the phone with Prime Minister Narendra Modi earlier on Thursday, revealed this in a post on social media.
In a post on X, the Brazilian President wrote:
“I spoke today by phone with the Prime Minister of India, @narendramodi.
“We discussed the State visit I will make to New Delhi between February 19 and 21, as well as the bilateral agenda.
“We highlighted the importance of the Brazil–India Business Forum that will take place during my visit, which will also be marked by the inauguration of the APEX Office in New Delhi.
“We also exchanged views on the global situation, reiterating our commitment to defending peace in Gaza and in the world, multilateralism, and democracy.”
Earlier, PM Modi, posted on X: “Glad to speak with President Lula. We reviewed the strong momentum in the India-Brazil Strategic Partnership, which is poised to scale new heights in the year ahead. Our close cooperation is vital for advancing the shared interests of the Global South. I look forward to welcoming him to India soon.”
A readout of the phone talk, said that Prime Minister Modi received a telephone call today from the Brazilian President.
The two leaders reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthen the India–Brazil Strategic Partnership and take it to even greater heights in the year ahead.
Recalling their meetings last year in Brasília and South Africa, the two leaders noted with satisfaction the significant progress achieved across diverse areas of bilateral cooperation, including trade and investment, technology, defence, energy, health, agriculture, and people-to-people ties.
The leaders also exchanged views on regional and global issues of mutual interest. They also underscored the importance of reformed multilateralism in addressing shared challenges.
Prime Minister Modi conveyed that he looked forward to welcoming President Lula to India at an early date, it said.
PM Modi had visited Brazil in July 2025 as part of a five-nation tour that also included Ghana, Trinidad and Tobago, Argentina, and Namibia.
During the Brazil visit, PM Modi attended the 17th BRICS Summit in Rio de Janeiro from July 6 to 7, and following the summit, he traveled to Brasilia on July 8 for a bilateral state visit—the first by an Indian Prime Minister in nearly 60 years.
President Lula da Silva conferred Brazil’s highest national honor, The Grand Collar of the National Order of the Southern Cross, upon PM Modi in recognition of his efforts to strengthen bilateral ties.
The two leaders signed six Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) covering sectors such as agricultural research, renewable energy, and digital cooperation during the visit, and reaffirmed their commitment to increase bilateral trade to $20 billion by 2030.
