‎‎New Delhi, Jan 23 (.) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday paid tribute to Shiv Sena founder Balasaheb Thackeray on his birth centenary, remembering him as a towering leader who left a lasting imprint on Maharashtra’s socio-political landscape.

‎In a message shared on the occasion, the Prime Minister said Balasaheb Thackeray profoundly shaped public discourse in the state through his distinctive leadership style and deep connection with the people. “On the birth centenary of the great Balasaheb Thackeray, we pay tribute to a towering figure who profoundly shaped Maharashtra’s socio-political landscape,” PM Modi said.

‎Highlighting Balasaheb’s personality and influence, PM Modi recalled his sharp intellect, powerful oratory and firm convictions. “Known for his sharp intellect, powerful oratory and uncompromising convictions, Balasaheb commanded a unique connect with the people,” he said.

‎The Prime Minister also drew attention to Balasaheb Thackeray’s contributions beyond active politics, noting his keen interest in culture, literature and journalism. “In addition to politics, Balasaheb was deeply passionate about culture, literature and journalism. His career as a cartoonist reflected his keen observation of society and his fearless commentary on various issues,” PM Modi said.

‎Balasaheb Thackeray, who founded the Shiv Sena in 1966, played a decisive role in shaping Maharashtra’s political narrative for decades and was known for his strong views, mass appeal and influence over public opinion.

‎Reiterating his commitment to the state’s development, the Prime Minister said Balasaheb’s vision continues to guide efforts toward Maharashtra’s progress. “We are greatly inspired by his vision for Maharashtra’s progress and will always work to fulfil it,” PM Modi added.

‎The tribute comes as political leaders across party lines mark the centenary celebrations, reflecting on Balasaheb Thackeray’s enduring legacy and his continued relevance in Maharashtra’s public life.
