Los Angeles, Jan 22 (.) The countdown to the 98th Academy Awards is officially underway, with actors Lewis Pullman and Danielle Brooks set to announce the 2026 Oscar nominations on Thursday morning, as per US time, Variety reports.
Paul Thomas Anderson’s One Battle After Another is widely tipped to emerge as the season’s biggest frontrunner following its dominant performance at the Golden Globes earlier this month.
The film won four awards, including Best Motion Picture – Drama, Best Supporting Actress for Teyana Taylor, and Best Director and Best Screenplay for Anderson.
Taylor, along with co-stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Chase Infiniti, Sean Penn and Benicio del Toro, is also expected to feature prominently in the acting categories, while the film’s technical teams are predicted to receive multiple nominations.
Ryan Coogler’s Sinners, a vampire drama set in the 1930s American South, is also shaping up to be a major awards contender. The film is forecast to earn nominations for performances by Michael B. Jordan and Wunmi Mosaku, Coogler’s original screenplay, and several craft categories.
According to Variety awards editor Clayton Davis, Sinners could receive as many as 15 nominations, potentially surpassing the long-standing record currently shared by All About Eve, Titanic and La La Land.
Conan O’Brien will return to host the 2026 Academy Awards, which are scheduled to take place on March 15. The ceremony will be broadcast live on ABC at 7 pm ET.
The nominations will be announced across major categories including Best Picture, Best Director, Acting categories, Screenplay, Animation, Documentary, Cinematography, Editing, Music, Production Design, Sound, Visual Effects, and several short film and technical awards.
