Bengaluru, Jan 24 (.) Delhi Capitals halted Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s unbeaten run in the Women’s Premier League with a commanding seven-wicket win today.
Delhi’s victory was built on an all-round performance, with Marizanne Kapp leading the way with the ball and Laura Wolvaardt anchoring the run chase.
RCB’s innings got off to a steady start with 36 runs in the first five overs. Smriti Mandhana, struggling early, managed to find some rhythm with a few boundaries but fell after scoring 38.
Marizanne Kapp, alongside Chinelle Henry and Nandni Sharma, applied relentless pressure, dismissing Grace Harris, Georgia Voll, Richa Ghosh, and others to bundle RCB out for just 109 in 20 overs.
Radha Yadav tried to counter-attack but was caught off a slower delivery, while the surface’s low bounce and the Capitals’ disciplined bowling made scoring difficult.
In reply, Delhi got off to a brisk start with Shafali Verma hitting four boundaries before being stumped by Richa Ghosh. Jemimah Rodrigues and Laura Wolvaardt steadied the chase, building a 52-run partnership that took the game away from RCB.
Rodrigues fell in the 12th over, but Wolvaardt, unbeaten on 42, and Kapp ensured the remaining runs were completed in just 15.4 overs. Sayali Satghare also contributed with two wickets, but RCB’s inability to capitalize on a dropped catch in the powerplay proved costly.
With this win, Delhi Capitals have now claimed their third victory of the season and climbed to second place on the points table, while RCB saw their five-match winning streak come to an end.
