Los Angeles, Jan 25 (.) Emmy-nominated actor Natasha Lyonne has revealed that she has experienced a relapse in her sobriety, years after publicly battling drug and alcohol addiction in the 2000s.
Sharing the update on social media, the Poker Face star wrote, “Took my relapse public more to come,” and later expanded on her thoughts in a series of posts.
As fans poured in messages of support, Lyonne reflected on the ongoing nature of recovery, writing, “Recovery is a lifelong process. Anyone out there struggling, remember you’re not alone. Grateful for love & smart feet. Gonna do it for baby Bambo. Stay honest, folks. Sick as our secrets. If no one told ya today, I love you. No matter how far down the scales we have gone, we will see how our experience may help another. Keep going, kiddos. Don’t quit before the miracle. Wallpaper your mind with love. Rest is all noise & baloney.”
Her message appeared to reference her upcoming project Baby Bambo, a film centered on a New York boxing promoter trying to balance fatherhood with his career. Lyonne is attached to the project as both writer and director.
Lyonne entered rehab in 2006 after years of substance abuse that nearly derailed her life and career. In an earlier interview, she had candidly spoken about that period, saying, “It’s weird to talk about. I was definitely as good as dead, you know? A lot of people don’t come back. That makes me feel wary and self-conscious. I wouldn’t want to feel prideful about it. People really rallied around me and pulled me up by my fucking bootstraps,” as quoted by Variety.
During that time, Lyonne faced repeated legal troubles and serious health complications linked to her addiction. She was also evicted from her apartment, an incident involving actor Michael Rappaport, before finally seeking treatment in 2006, according to Page Six.
Since then, Lyonne has staged a widely praised comeback, earning acclaim for roles in Orange Is the New Black and Russian Doll, and picking up multiple SAG Awards along with Emmy and Golden Globe nominations.
