Thrissur, Jan 25 (.) An eight-day International Theatre extravaganza, with the theme “Voices in this Silence”, opened in this cultural capital city today with hundreds of theatre enthusiasts gathering at the Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Academy premises here.
The 16th edition of International Theatre Festival of Kerala (ITFOK) will feature 23 plays, including nine foreign plays.
The Festival will also showcase 14 Indian plays, including five in Malayalam.
There will be a total of 48 performances during the festival which will conclude on February one. Altogether 245 theatre persons, including 49 from abroad, will be attending the event, including from Japan and Denmark.
Revenue Minister K Rajan inaugurated the festival in the presence of Higher Education Minister R Bindu, renowned filmmaker Anand Patwardhan, Gujarati film maker Dakxin Chhara and internationally acclaimed artist Maya Thangberge. The ‘Frankenstein Project’ from Argentina was the inaugural play.
The Festival once again positions itself as a vital meeting ground for global performance, dissent and dialogue. The nine foreign plays are from Argentina, Brazil, Spain, Armenia, Palestine, Slovakia, Japan and Denmark
