New Delhi, Jan 27 Bengali actor Prosenjit Chatterjee has been named a recipient of the honorary Padma Shri Award, recognizing his outstanding contributions to Indian cinema and the arts.
Reflecting on his four-decade-long journey in the Bengali film industry, Prosenjit expressed heartfelt gratitude.
In a self-made video, Prosenit said, “I am really thankful and grateful that the Indian government has awarded me the Padma Shri. I have been working for the past 40 years and people around me, including my producers, directors, and co-actors have contributed to my journey. This is not just my achievement but it belongs to everyone else who made me Prosenjit Chatterjee. Receiving the award from the President is in itself a great achievement.”
On the eve of Republic Day 2026, the Ministry of Home Affairs announced this year’s Padma Awards, honoring individuals for remarkable contributions to the nation.
Prosenjit Chatterjee was named alongside distinguished individuals from fields such as art, education, sports, and other disciplines. The acclaimed actor-director has appeared in over 200 films throughout his Indian cinema career, primarily in the Bengali film industry.
He has starred in critically acclaimed films including Chotto Jigyasa, Amar Sangi, Chokher Bali, Shob Charitro Kalponik, Moner Manush, Jaatishwar, Baishe Srabon, Shankhachil, and Autograph. He has also worked in Bollywood films like Shanghai, Traffic, and Maalik, and in series such as Jubilee and Khakee: The Bengal Chapter.
Most recently, Prosenjit appeared in ‘Vijaynagar’er Hirey’, directed by Chandrasish Ray, which also starred Aryann Bhowmik in a lead role.
For 2026, the Padma Awards list features a total of 131 recipients, recognizing achievements across diverse fields, reaffirming the significance of contributions like Prosenjit Chatterjee’s in the cultural and artistic landscape of India.
