Hyderabad, Jan 27 (.) Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) on Tuesday signed an agreement with GMR Hyderabad International Airport Limited (GHIAL) to construct a dedicated Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF) pipeline to Hyderabad’s international airport, strengthening aviation fuel infrastructure and reducing dependence on road-based fuel transport.
The proposed pipeline will run over 56 kilometres from BPCL’s Malkapur (Sangareddy Dist), Telangana installation to the fuel farm at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport, with about one kilometre passing through airport premises, the corporation said in a release.
Once operational, the pipeline will operate on a common carrier basis, enabling efficient and uninterrupted fuel supply to one of India’s fastest-growing airports.
The agreement was signed by BPCL Chief General Manager – Marketing (Aviation) Sujit Kumar and GHIAL Chief Commercial Officer Ashish Kumar in Goa.
BPCL said the project aligns with its focus on building future-ready and environmentally sustainable enrgy infrastructure.
The pipeline is expected to significantly reduce carbon emissions by replacing large-scale road transportation of aviation fuel through tank Lorries, while also improving safety and operational efficiency.
“BPCL has been a pioneer in establishing aviation fuel facilities and allied infrastructure across Indian airports.
This dedicated ATF pipeline reinforces our commitment to reliable fuel supply and reduced carbon emissions,” said Sanjeev Kumar, Business Head – Aviation, BPCL.
GHIAL Chief Executive Officer Pradeep Panicker said “The common-use fuel transportation pipeline will enhance operational efficiency while contributing to lower emissions, which is critical for building a greener aviation ecosystem.”
BPCL, a Fortune Global 500 company and Maharatna public sector undertaking, operates refineries at Mumbai, Kochi and Bina with a combined capacity of 35.3 million tonnes per annum.
The company has set a target to achieve net-zero emissions in Scope 1 and Scope 2 by 2040.
