Washington, Jan 28 (.) Production has begun on Netflix’s upcoming female-led comedy The Fifth Wheel, starring Kim Kardashian and Nikki Glaser, and directed by Eva Longoria.
Netflix shared first-look behind-the-scenes images from the set on Instagram, announcing the film is now in production.
“The Fifth Wheel, starring Kim Kardashian, Nikki Glaser, Fortune Feimster, Brenda Song, and directed by Eva Longoria, is now in production,” the streaming giant wrote alongside the photos.
Written by Paula Pell and Janine Brito, the film follows a group of high school best friends who reunite for a weekend trip to Las Vegas. Their plans are upended when a charismatic outsider—the titular “fifth wheel,” played by Kardashian—joins the group, forcing them to confront their messy lives, bad decisions, and unraveling friendships, Variety reported.
This marks Longoria’s second feature as a director; she previously helmed Flamin’ Hot in 2023, which chronicled the creation of Flamin’ Hot Cheetos.
For Kardashian, the film represents her first leading role in a feature film and her first collaboration with Netflix. The reality star has previously acted in Hulu’s legal drama All’s Fair and appeared alongside Emma Roberts as publicist Siobhan Corbyn in Season 12 of American Horror Story.
The Fifth Wheel is produced by Paula Pell, Kim Kardashian, Jessica Elbaum, Will Ferrell, and Alex Brown for Gloria Sanchez, along with Cris Abrego and Eva Longoria’s Hyphenate Media Group. Mary Bundy and David Hyman serve as executive producers, Variety reported. A release date for the comedy has not yet been announced.
