New Delhi, Jan 29(.) The Trans-Yamuna Area Development Board (TYADB) on Thursday approved development projects worth nearly Rs 728 crore to boost infrastructure in East Delhi, which is home to almost one-third of the capital’s population.
The decisions were taken at a board meeting chaired by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta at the Delhi Secretariat. Cabinet Minister Kapil Mishra, TYADB Chairman and MLA Arvinder Singh Lovely, along with other board members, were present.
Rekha Gupta said there would be no shortage of funds for Yamunapar’s development and asked officials to prioritise projects based on public needs. She said improving the Trans-Yamuna region is among the Delhi government’s top priorities.
“Our aim is to develop Yamunapar in such a way that people choose to live here by choice,” Gupta said.
She stressed that development must go beyond beautification and focus on basic civic needs such as roads, drainage, waterlogging and safe movement for residents.
Gupta also expressed concern that the board had remained inactive during the previous government’s term, which slowed development and caused hardship for local residents.
She assured that all approved projects would be completed and instructed departments to urgently fix damaged roads, drainage issues and waterlogging ahead of the upcoming monsoon.
She said roads used daily by thousands of commuters must be repaired on priority to prevent inconvenience and accidents.
Cabinet Minister Kapil Mishra said Yamunapar had been neglected for years despite its growing population and rising needs.
“Now, serious efforts are being made to correct this imbalance,” he said.
Mishra added that the government plans to bring infrastructure in Yamunapar to the same standard seen in parts of Delhi during the Commonwealth Games period. Special focus will be given to roads, drainage, public facilities and tourism-related works to help make Yamunapar one of Delhi’s key developed regions.
