New Delhi, 1 Feb (.): The union Budget 2026-27 has allocated Rs 12,503.65 crore to Delhi Police, reflecting a 4.79 per cent increase over last year’s allocation and a marginal rise from the revised estimate of Rs 12,405.70 crore for 2025-26, compared to an actual allocation of Rs Rs 12,503.65 crore in the previous fiscal.
The higher allocation comes on the back of the Red Fort car blast and other terror incidents and discovery of modules in the NCR region.
Officials from the delhi police said, ” Delhi is obviously a target for terror groups, besides various kinds of gangs specialising in white collar crimes. Hence the need to beef up the force with various new equipment and a slew of measures to modernise it.”
The allocation will be used not only on routine expenditures and multiple initiatives, including the development of a model traffic system and an upgraded communication network across the NCR region, but also in digital mapping, face recognition software and on intelligence gathering.
It is also intended to cover major infrastructure and IT projects. Infrastructure costs alone have been pegged at Rs 342.50 crore, while training and education of police personnel stands Rs 908.78 crore.
Delhi Police is tasked with maintaining law and order in the National Capital Territory of Delhi, including traffic regulation. Its normal responsibilities also include upgrading communication infrastructure, adopting modern technologies, installing traffic signals, and training personnel.
In the 2025–26 financial year, Delhi Police was allocated Rs 11,931.66 crore, which has been increased to Rs 12,503.65 crore in the budget for the next fiscal year.
Officials stated that the increased allocation will strengthen key initiatives, such as the Safe City project, and enhance overall policing and public safety infrastructure in the national capital.
Earlier, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said the budget was a step towards Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of Viksit Bharat.
“It has something for every segment, especially employment generation for youth, cultural heritage conservation and development, sports, and rebates for availing education and health services in foreign countries,” the chief minister told reporters after watching the budget presentation at an event in North West Delhi’s Tri Nagar area with local residents. .
