Los Angeles, Feb 2 (.) Emerging musician Lola Young pulled off one of the biggest upsets at the 68th Grammy Awards, winning Best Pop Solo Performance over established stars including Justin Bieber, Lady Gaga, Sabrina Carpenter and Chappell Roan.
Young, who was nominated alongside Bieber’s Daisies, Carpenter’s Manchild, Gaga’s Disease and Roan’s The Subway, received her first Grammy at the ceremony held in Los Angeles, according to Variety.
Overcome with emotion, Young thanked her supporters onstage. “Thank you so much. I am very grateful for this. I love you everybody,” she said.
The British singer-songwriter first gained attention with her 2019 debut single 6 Feet Under. That year, she also released the EP Intro, accompanied by a music video for the track 3rd of Jan (Getting Ready).
The 2026 Grammy Awards are being hosted by Trevor Noah in his final year as emcee. The ceremony features performances by major artists including 16-time Grammy winner Bruno Mars, Rosé, Lady Gaga and Sabrina Carpenter. An In Memoriam segment also honors music legends such as Ozzy Osbourne and Roberta Flack.
Mars, who has three nominations this year, is in the running for ‘Record of the Year’, ‘Song of the Year’, and ‘Best Pop Duo/Group Performance’ for his collaboration with a Blackpink member.
Kendrick Lamar leads the night with nine nominations. Other contenders for Album of the Year include Bad Bunny, Justin Bieber, Lady Gaga and Tyler, the Creator.
