New Delhi, Feb 3 (.)‎ ‎Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav on Tuesday launched a blistering attack on the BJP-led union government, accusing it of striking at the interests of farmers by allegedly opening Indian markets to American agricultural products and pushing what he termed “anti-farmer” policies, including the proposed Seed Bill.
‎In a statement posted on his WhatsApp channel, Yadav alleged that the BJP had once again “attacked farmers” and demanded that the government clarify whether it was acting under external pressure. “Bharat ke bazaar ko American krishi utpaadon aur khadyaannon ke liye khol dena, hamare desh ki kheti-kisani par rozi-basar karne wali 70 per cent abaadi ke saath dhokha hai,” he said.
‎The SP chief claimed that such policies would not only hurt farmers but would also have a cascading impact on the lower middle class and middle class. According to him, opening markets to foreign agricultural products would encourage profiteering and create a new class of middlemen, making food items more expensive.
“Isse keval kisan hi nahi, nimn madhyamvarg aur madhyamvarg bhi buri tarah prabhavit hoga,” Yadav said, alleging that rising prices would ultimately benefit corporates and ruling party-linked interest groups.
‎Escalating his rhetoric, Yadav accused the BJP and its allies of historically siding with foreign interests. “Bhaajpai aur unke sangee-saathi azaadi se pehle bhi videshiyon ke agent the, aaj bhi hain,” he alleged, questioning the government’s claims of ‘aatmanirbharta’ and ‘swadeshi’. He also alleged corruption, saying those advocating self-reliance should explain “kitna commission khaya gaya hai” in decisions affecting the economy.
‎Yadav further warned that farmers would gradually be forced to sell their land to wealthy individuals and corporates due to falling incomes. “Dheere-dheere hamare kisano ki kheti-baadi aur aay kam ho jaayegi aur woh majboor hokar apni zameen ameeron aur corporate ko bechne par majboor ho jaayenge,” he said, alleging that land acquisition was the BJP’s “final objective.”
‎The Samajwadi Party chief also strongly opposed the proposed Seed Bill, calling it “Bhartiya kheti ke liye ghatak.” He described it as the product of the same government that, he said, brought “kale kanoon” on land acquisition and humiliated people by making them stand in long queues for fertilisers every year.
‎Listing what he called a chain of profiteering, Yadav alleged that commissions would be extracted from seed companies, pesticide firms, silo operators, crop insurance companies and middlemen involved in procurement and pricing. He warned that the use of unsuitable seeds would “Bhartiya vatavaran mein kheti-kisani ko poori tarah dhvast kar dega.”
‎Calling for organised resistance, Yadav said farmers already troubled by MSP issues and “chhutta pashu” would no longer tolerate what he described as the government’s excesses. “BJP kisan virodhi thi, hai aur rahegi,” he asserted, with a call to action: “BJP hatao aur khet, kisani, kisan bachao!”
The remarks come amid a broader political debate over agricultural reforms, trade negotiations and proposed changes to seed and farm-related laws, with opposition parties seeking to revive farmer-centric issues ahead of upcoming electoral contests. . SKA KK
