Los Angeles, Feb 2 (.) With his latest Grammy Award, Steven Spielberg has officially joined the exclusive EGOT club, one of the highest honors in global entertainment.
The filmmaker earned the award for Best Music Film for Music by John Williams, a documentary celebrating the career of his longtime collaborator and legendary composer.
The win completes Spielberg’s collection of the four major entertainment awards, Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony, a rare achievement accomplished by only 20 artists to date, according to Variety.
The documentary, streaming on Disney , traces John Williams’ storied career and his decades-long creative partnership with Spielberg, which began with The Sugarland Express and defined iconic films including Jaws, Schindler’s List, and Saving Private Ryan.
Spielberg’s Academy Awards record further underscores his legacy. He has received nine nominations for Best Director, the third-highest total in history, winning twice for Schindler’s List (1993) and Saving Private Ryan (1998). As a producer, he holds the record for the most Best Picture nominations, with 14 films, according to Variety.
On television, Spielberg has earned multiple Primetime Emmy Awards, including for Band of Brothers, Taken, and The Pacific. His Tony Award journey began in 2022 as part of the production team for the musical A Strange Loop, which won Best Musical. Tony officials confirmed that Spielberg received a statuette, listed under the “et al” designation.
Following his Grammy win, Spielberg expressed gratitude to voters and praised Williams’ cultural impact, calling the composer’s influence “immeasurable” and his legacy “unrivaled,” according to Variety.
With this achievement, Spielberg joins an elite roster of EGOT winners, including Audrey Hepburn, Rita Moreno, John Legend, Jennifer Hudson, and Viola Davis.
