    New Delhi, Feb 2 (.) A day after the announcement of the union Budget 2026, the Indian stock market clocked strong gains snapping their two-day losing run, with the BSE Sensex zooming up 943.52 points or 1.17 per cent to end firm at 81,666.46 and the NSE Nifty advancing 262.95 points or 1.06 pc to 25,088.40, on the back of strong gains in Auto, Oil & Gas, Metal, Realty and FMCG sectors.
    Nifty Midcap also climbed 1 pc and the Nifty Smallcap advanced 0.6 pc.
    The overall market capitalisation of BSE-listed firms to more than Rs 455 lakh crore from Rs 450.6 lakh crore.
    Among the sectors, almost all indices ended with healthy gains except for Nifty IT and Healthcare which were down by 0.47 pc and by 0.08 pc, respectively.
    On other hand, Nifty Auto was up 2.13 pc, followed by Oil & Gas (by 2.04 pc), Metal (by 1.88 pc), Realty (by 1.61 pc),and FMCG (by 1.1 pc) clocked strong gains. Nifty Bank rose 0.35 pc while the Financial Services index rose by 0.37 pc.
    On Nifty, around 39 stocks ended higher with the key ones including Power Grid Corporation of India up by 7.42 pc, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles up by 5.61 pc, and Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone up by 4.28 pc.
    Those ending as top losers were Shriram Finance (down by 3.17 pc), Axis Bank (by 2.33 pc), and Max Healthcare Institute (by 1.82 pc).
    The advance-decline ratio remained in favour of decliners as over 2,200 stocks declined while over 2,000 advanced on the BSE.
    On the BSE, around 76 stocks hit their 52-week highs while 360 stocks hit their 52-week lows in intraday trade.
    Those on the highs included Aether Industries and MTAR Technologies while on the lows were ITC, Bajaj Holdings & Investment, Havells India, Max Healthcare Institute, and Trent.
    The shares of Larsen & Toubro (L&T) gained more than 3 pc while the shares of Power Grid Corporation of India jumped nearly 8 pc.
    Shares of oil marketing companies (OMC) jumped in trade as the Hindustan Petroleum Corporation (HPCL) shares jumped nearly 5 pc, Bharat Petroleum Corporation (BPCL) and Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) shares also gained sharply.
