Los Angeles, Feb 3 (.) Nancy Meyers is poised to make her return to the director’s chair, with her next feature officially moving forward at Warner Bros with Penélope Cruz and Owen Wilson, who were attached to an earlier version of the film, are set to remain on board.
This will be Meyers’ first time directing in 11 years, following the Anne Hathaway- Robert De Niro comedy ‘The Intern’ (2015), which she also wrote. Apart from the aforementioned cast Oscar winner Kieran Culkin, Jude Law and Emma Mackey are in advanced negotiations to join the cast. Warner Bros has scheduled the film for a Christmas Day 2027 release, strategically positioning it in the high-profile holiday market, reports Deadline.
There is no title yet, and the logline remains under wraps; anything that’s been previously out there is untrue. Producers are Meyers and Ilona Herzberg, with Diana Pokorny being the executive producer. The latest Meyers movie was previously set at Netflix with Scarlett Johansson and Michael Fassbender in talks at the time to join Wilson and Cruz. The price tag was between $130 million-$150 million, with $80M for above-the-line costs. Netflix couldn’t do it. We hear that Warner Bros is making the movie at a significantly lower cost.
Two days after Netflix pulled the plug in mid-March 2023, the project moved to Warner Bros., where they’ve been passionate about mounting it. At one point, Adam Driver was kicking the tires before he committed to Michael Mann’s Heat 2.
