Dhaka, Feb 5 (.) BNP chairman Tarique Rahman will address the party’s final election rally in Dhaka’s Nayapaltan area on February 8, as campaigning enters its closing stretch ahead of polling day.
The rally is scheduled to begin at 2:00 pm, with Rahman attending as the chief guest, BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi told reporters at a press conference at the party’s Nayapaltan central office on Thursday.
Rizvi said all preparations for the programme have been completed and that BNP candidates from Dhaka and nearby constituencies will join the rally.
He further said the BNP has historically come to power with the support of the people and claimed that the party has remained resilient despite what he described as severe repression.
“The BNP has always come to power through the people’s mandate,” Rizvi said, adding that the party had endured what he described as years of repression yet continued to stand firm.
Expressing optimism about the peaceful election environment, Rizvi said voters are expected to be able to exercise their franchise freely and without fear.
Referring to the party’s election symbol, he added “The people of the country see the sheaf of paddy not merely as a symbol, but as an emotion. Inspired by that spirit, people will cast their votes on February 12.”
The rally is expected to draw a large crowd and will mark the BNP’s final major public event in the capital before the election.
