New Delhi, Feb 6 (.) Indian stock market shed previous losses in a volatile session on Friday with the Nifty trading near 25,700.
At close, the Sensex was up 266.47 points or 0.32pc at 83,580.40, and the Nifty was up 50.90 points or 0.20pc at 25,693.70.
Broader markets showed a mixed performance as the Nifty Midcap index ended flat while the Smallcap index slipped 0.3pc.
Among the sectors, Financial Services index rose by 0.43pc.
Further, the Nifty FMCG clocked a strong gain of 2.27pc, Nifty Consumer Durables rose by 0.96pc while Nifty Private Bank, Realty, and Oil and Gas indices rose more than half a per cent each.
The gainers on Nifty50 were ITC up by 5.21pc, Kotak Mahindra Bank up by 3.33pc, and Hindustan Unilever up by 2.83pc. On the losing end were HDFC Life Insurance Company down by 2.40pc, Tech Mahindra down by 1.83pc, and TCS down by 1.71pc.
The advance-decline ratio remained in favour of decliners as over 1,900 stocks advanced while over 2,200 declined on the BSE.
Around 83 stocks hit their 52-week highs while 107 stocks hit their 52-week lows in intraday trade on the BSE.
Those hitting highs included IOC, APL Apollo Tubes, Jindal Steel, FSN E-Commerce Ventures, and SAIL. On the lows were Naukri, Mankind Pharma, and Procter & Gamble Hygiene and Health Care.
Nifty Realty index slipped up to 1pc, and the performance of notable names was Oberoi Realty declined 1.9pc; Lodha Developers, Brigade Enterprises, Godrej Properties and DLF were also among the major laggards, shedding up to 1pc.
IT stocks including Infosys, Tech Mahindra, LTI Mindtree, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) and others fell up to 8pc. . BA SAS .
