Washington, Feb 7 (.) Steve Carell’s upcoming comedy series ‘Rooster’ has officially received a release date along with its first trailer. The ten-episode series is set to premiere on March 8 on HBO, with new episodes airing weekly through May 10.
Created by Ted Lasso and Shrinking co-creator Bill Lawrence alongside his former Scrubs collaborator Matt Tarses, the series blends campus comedy with character-driven humour.
According to Variety, the trailer introduces Carell as a bestselling author known for a popular book series who visits his daughter, played by Charly Clive, a college professor navigating personal chaos. Her troubles include accidentally burning down a faculty house and deliberately punching her husband, also a professor, after he leaves her for a graduate student.
Carell’s character is soon drawn into campus life, where he begins contributing at the college, befriends students, attends frat parties and tries to live up to the nickname “Rooster”, the confident, larger-than-life protagonist of his novels.
HBO Max shared the trailer on its official Instagram account. The series also stars Danielle Deadwyler, Phil Dunster, John C. McGinley and Lauren Tsai. ‘Rooster’ is executive produced by Lawrence and Tarses alongside Jeff Ingold and Liza Katzer for Doozer, as well as Jonathan Krisel, Barbie Adler, Annie Mebane, David Stassen, Anthony King, David Hyman and Steve Carell.
The show is produced by Warner Bros. Television, where both Doozer and Tarses have overall deals.
Carell is best known for his iconic role as Michael Scott in the American adaptation of The Office, which also starred John Krasinski, Rainn Wilson and Jenna Fischer, among others.
