New Delhi, Feb 9 (.) In a significant step toward strengthening Defence cooperation and capacity-building, the Indian Army on Monday handed over 50 military utility vehicles to the Nepali Army at the India–Nepal border.
The vehicles will be formally presented by India’s Ambassador to Nepal at a ceremony scheduled to be held in Kathmandu.
Announcing the move, the Additional Directorate General of Public Information (ADGPI) posted on X, “Indian Army handed over 50 military utility vehicles to the Nepali Army at the India-Nepal border. The vehicles will be formally presented by the Ambassador of India to Nepal during a ceremony in Kathmandu. This initiative reflects the Indian Army’s steadfast commitment to enhancing capacity-building efforts of the Nepali Army and underscores the enduring bond of friendship, trust, and close cooperation shared between the two Armies.”
The move comes months after Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, during his two-day official visit to Kathmandu, handed over a set of Defence and medical equipment to Nepal’s Chief of Army Staff, Suprabal Janasewashree Gen Ashok Raj Sigdel, at a special ceremony held at the Nepal Army headquarters in Kathmandu in August 2025.
The package comprised Light Strike Vehicles, advanced life-support medical systems, and trained military animals, supplied under the framework of continuing Defence collaboration between the two neighbouring countries.
According to the Indian Embassy, the initiative underscores the enduring bonds between the Indian and Nepali armed forces. It also reaffirms the deep-rooted trust and cooperation that have long characterised bilateral ties.
Later in a post on X, the Indian Embassy wrote, “Foreign Secretary @VikramMisri handed over Light Strike Vehicles, Critical Care Medical Equipment & Military Animals to Suprabal Janasewashree Gen Ashok Raj Sigdel, COAS, Nepali Army, at a special ceremony at the Nepali Army HQ, Kathmandu. This handing over of items reflects the close relationship between the two armies and our robust defence cooperation. It embodies the spirit of trust and partnership that has long characterised our enduring ties.”
