New Delhi, Feb 9 (.) Both Houses of Parliament on Monday congratulated the Indian Under-19 cricket team for their historic triumph in the ICC Under-19 Men’s Cricket World Cup 2026, praising the young players for bringing glory to the nation with their outstanding performance.
Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla said the Indian team had achieved a remarkable feat by defeating England in the final held in Harare, Zimbabwe, on February 6. He noted that the young cricketers displayed exceptional skill, determination, discipline, and teamwork throughout the tournament.
“Their achievement has inspired young people across the country to strive for excellence. This House congratulates the Indian Under-19 cricket team on winning the World Cup and extends its best wishes for their bright future, hoping that this achievement will further inspire young players in the times to come,” Birla said.
Rajya Sabha Chairman C P Radhakrishnan described the victory as a moment of immense pride for the nation, highlighting that it was India’s sixth Under-19 World Cup title.
“It is with immense pride that I refer to the outstanding achievement of the Indian Under-19 cricket team in winning the ICC Under-19 Men’s Cricket World Cup in Harare, Zimbabwe, defeating England by a commanding margin and bringing great honour to the country,” Radhakrishnan said.
He said the triumph once again reflected the depth of talent, commitment, and sporting excellence among India’s youth. While applauding the collective effort of the team, Radhakrishnan placed special appreciation on record for young prodigy Vaibhav Suryavanshi, who scored a sensational 175 runs in the final, the highest individual score ever recorded in an Under-19 World Cup final.
“The brilliant individual performances by his colleagues in the run-up to the final were truly inspiring and reflect the promise of a bright future,” he added.
India’s emphatic victory in the final came on the back of a sensational batting display by Vaibhav Suryavanshi, who smashed a record-breaking 175 off just 80 balls, laced with 15 fours and 15 sixes.
India piled up a massive 411 for nine, also riding on a half-century from skipper Ayush Mhatre (53 off 51 balls, with seven fours and two sixes) and a fluent knock from Abhigyan Kundu (40 off 31 balls, including six fours and a six).
