Visakhapatnam, Feb 13 (.) Andhra Pradesh’s tourism sector is entering a decisive growth phase with the hosting of the National Travel Mart, said Kandula Durgesh, Minister for Tourism here on Friday.
He described the two-day event in Visakhapatnam as more than a convention, calling it a catalyst for a “new chapter” in the State’s tourism development.
The National Travel Mart is being jointly organised by the Government of Andhra Pradesh and the Association of Domestic Tour Operators of India (ADTOI), bringing together tourism officials and stakeholders from several States.
Addressing the gathering, the Minister said tour operators act as brand ambassadors for Andhra Pradesh and play a crucial role in positioning the State on the national tourism map.
He credited the focused push by Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan, along with support from the Centre, for giving tourism the highest priority.
Durgesh highlighted that the Tourism Policy 2024–2029 has accorded industry status to tourism, offering subsidies and multiple incentives to investors.
Over the past 18 months, he said the State has signed agreements for 117 tourism projects worth ₹20,088 crore, paving the way for the creation of 1.22 lakh jobs.
He said the single-window system has significantly reduced procedural delays, enabling faster project implementation.
The Minister also announced plans to introduce caravan tourism between Visakhapatnam and Araku, aimed at diversifying travel experiences.
Emphasising a broader vision, the Minister said Andhra Pradesh is moving beyond temple tourism to promote eco, adventure, cruise, river, agri, heritage, medical and wellness tourism. Officials from various States participated in the meet, underscoring growing national interest in Andhra Pradesh’s tourism potential.
