Paris, Feb 18 (.) France’s Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Jean-Noël Barrot, spoke on Thursday with UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs Tom Fletcher, reaffirming Paris’s commitment to international humanitarian law and the protection of civilians.
Barrot praised the efforts of French NGOs, the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), and the International Committee of the Red Cross, highlighting the importance of safeguarding humanitarian workers and ensuring safe, unhindered access for aid operations worldwide.
The two officials discussed major global humanitarian crises and agreed to continue collaboration to assist populations in conflict zones. Barrot also confirmed France’s support for ongoing reforms of the UN humanitarian system.
The minister and Fletcher held talks with humanitarian organization representatives, with Barrot outlining the objectives of France’s upcoming national humanitarian conference in June, which aims to advance the country’s 2023-2027 humanitarian strategy.
The discussions took place at the Embassy of France in Paris.
