Hyderabad, Feb 23 (.): In a significant boost to Telangana’s growing Global Capability Centre ecosystem, US-based insurer The Hartford on Monday launched its first India operations with the inauguration of a 160,000 sq. ft. Global Technology Centre in Hyderabad’s Financial District.
The facility was inaugurated by Telangana IT and Industries Minister Duddilla Sridhar Babu. It marks The Hartford’s formal entry into the Indian market and underscores Hyderabad’s position as a preferred destination for multinational corporations setting up high-value technology and engineering hubs.
The centre is expected to scale up to nearly 1,200 employees over the next few years, focusing on advanced digital engineering, artificial intelligence and enterprise-wide technology transformation initiatives for The Hartford’s global operations.
Speaking on the occasion, Sridhar Babu said, “In Hyderabad, we measure our success by the impact we help global institutions create. We welcome The Hartford as a partner in building the next chapter of digital innovation.”
During the visit, the Minister interacted with the company’s leadership team, including President Morris Tooker, Chief Marketing and Communications Officer Claire Burns, Chief Information Officer Shekar Pannala, and Managing Director and Head of Hartford India Surya Thammiraju.
The team briefed the Minister on the centre’s operating model, talent roadmap and plans to build deep engineering and AI capabilities from Hyderabad.

The new centre will operate in a start-up-like environment designed for rapid prototyping and agile development, while collaborating across time zones with The Hartford’s existing technology hubs in Hartford, Charlotte, Chicago and Columbus.
According to company leadership, the Hyderabad facility will play a pivotal role in building next-generation insurance technology capabilities, especially as the sector moves toward predictive and data-driven models powered by advanced analytics and climate intelligence.
