Marty Supreme Sweeps Nominations but Goes Winless at BAFTAs
London, Feb 23 (.): Timothée Chalamet’s Marty Supreme may have captured the imagination of audiences, but at the 79th BAFTA Awards, it lost the Best Actor prize to Robert Aramayo for his performance in Kirk Jones’ Tourette’s drama I Swear.
With this disappointing night ahead of the Oscars, Marty Supreme joins the ranks of films like Women in Love (1969) and Finding Neverland (2004) as the only titles to go winless at BAFTA despite 11 nominations, reported Variety.
Notably, both films still managed to secure a single Oscar. Glenda Jackson won Best Actress for Women in Love, while Jan A.P. Kaczmarek took home Best Original Score for Finding Neverland, Variety reported.
Despite the BAFTA setback, Marty Supreme remains a strong contender at the Oscars 2026. Previously, Everything Everywhere All at Once won just one BAFTA (Film Editing) before sweeping seven Oscars, including Best Picture, Best Director, and three acting awards. Similarly, Moonlight (2016) went home empty-handed at the BAFTAs, losing all four of its nominations, yet went on to win Best Picture at the Academy Awards.
At the BAFTAs, Marty Supreme was nominated for Best Film, Best Director, Best Leading Actor (Chalamet), Best Supporting Actress (Odessa A’zion), Casting, Original Screenplay, Production Design, Cinematography, Costume Design, Film Editing, and Makeup and Hairstyling. For the Oscars, the film received nine nominations but missed out on nods for Supporting Actress and Makeup and Hairstyling.
Final Oscar voting runs from February 26 to March 5, with the 98th Academy Awards scheduled for March 15 on ABC, hosted by Conan O’Brien, according to Variety.
