Pallekele, Feb 23 (.) Pakistan batter Sahibzada Farhan said on Monday that selection in overseas franchise leagues is beyond players’ control, expressing hope of getting opportunities in competitions like The Hundred.
Speaking at a pre-match press conference ahead of Pakistan’s upcoming fixtures against England on Tuesday, Farhan said players remain available for leagues that are willing to pick them.
“See, it’s not in our hands to decide who will pick us or not. That is not in our hands. Wherever we get a chance, those who are interested can pick us, and we are ready to play in that league,” he said.
Responding to a question about Pakistan players not being picked in certain franchise leagues with strong IPL ties, Farhan said, “And we are not interested in playing with the people, the way you have spoken.”
He added that playing in global leagues remains an ambition for players. “I have a lot of hope, every player wants to play for every league, and The Hundred is one of the best leagues. So, hope for the best,” he said.
According to reports, a total of 67 male and four female Pakistani players have registered for The Hundred auction.
Earlier, England batter Harry Brook, who has been signed by Sunrisers Leeds, said Pakistan cricketers bring value to franchise competitions.
“I think there’s about 50 or 60 players in the auction, and it would be a shame not to see some of them in there. There are some amazing cricketers, and they bring some great crowds as well,” he said.
Reports have suggested that Indian-owned franchises, including Manchester Super Giants, MI London, Southern Brave, and Sunrisers Leeds, may refrain from selecting Pakistan players at the auction amid concerns over potential political sensitivities.
