New Delhi, Mar 2 (.) Eight years after the two sides engaged in their maiden clash in the longest format of cricket, Afghanistan will tour India in June for a one-off Test followed by a three-match ODI series.
The Test will be played in New Chandigarh from June 6, while the ODIs are scheduled for June 14, 17 and 20 in Dharamsala, Lucknow and Chennai respectively.
This will be only the second Test meeting between the two teams.
In their first encounter in 2018 in Bengaluru, India secured a comprehensive victory by an innings and 262 runs. The upcoming Test will not count towards the ongoing ICC World Test Championship 2025–27 cycle. Notably, it will be just the second Test to be played in India in the month of June, with the previous one also coming against Afghanistan.
The series will begin six days after the IPL final, which is slated for May 31.
The ODI leg will mark the first bilateral series in the 50-over format between the two sides. India and Afghanistan have previously faced each other in ODIs only at multi-team events such as the Asia Cup and the World Cup. Their most recent meeting across formats came during the Super Eights stage of the 2024 T20 World Cup.
While this will be India’s first assignment after the ongoing T20 World Cup, Afghanistan are set to host Sri Lanka in the UAE for three T20Is and three ODIs immediately after the global tournament.
The home series against Afghanistan will usher in a busy stretch for India, who are scheduled to tour England for five T20Is and three ODIs from July 1 to 19.
