New Delhi, March 3 (.) Indian airline companies have announced the resumption of regular and special flights to select cities in West Asia starting Tuesday.
Private carrier SpiceJet said it will operate one special flight each from Fujairah (United Arab Emirates) to Delhi and Kochi, and two special flights to Mumbai, on Tuesday and over the next few days.
From Wednesday, it will also resume its regular flights from Fujairah to Delhi and Mumbai.
New airline Akasa Air has announced the launch of its regular service between Mumbai and Jeddah (Saudi Arabia) from Tuesday.
From Wednesday, it will operate regular flights to Jeddah from Mumbai and Ahmedabad. However, all its flights to Abu Dhabi, Doha, Kuwait and Riyadh will remain cancelled until Wednesday.
IndiGo is operating four flights on Tuesday from Jeddah to Mumbai, Hyderabad and Ahmedabad. The airline said these flights are being operated for passengers who had earlier booked tickets on IndiGo services.
Air India Express has announced the resumption of regular flights from Muscat, the capital of Oman, to Delhi, Kochi, Kozhikode, Bengaluru, Mumbai and Tiruchirappalli starting Tuesday.
However, all its flights to Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates will remain cancelled until midnight Tuesday.
Air India has announced that all its flights to the United States, Canada, Europe and the United Kingdom will operate normally from Tuesday. It added that all its flights to West Asia will remain cancelled until midnight.
It may be noted that the situation in West Asia has deteriorated following a joint military campaign by the United States and Israel against Iran.
Iran has also been carrying out attacks on American military bases located in several West Asian countries. As a result, several countries have closed their airspace.
Due to the crisis in West Asia, 357 flights departing from India were cancelled on Monday. According to information received from Delhi Airport, 80 flights to and from Delhi have been cancelled on Tuesday for the same reason.
Of these, 36 flights were scheduled to depart from Delhi to West Asia, while 44 flights were to arrive in Delhi from the region.
Meanwhile, limited flight operations have also resumed from Dubai International Airport since Monday evening, including services to five Indian cities such as Delhi and Mumbai.
